PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator speed governor capable of being mounted on a car without restricting the dimensions of a top and a pit and also the sectional dimension of an elevator shaft. SOLUTION: A speed detector consisting of a magnetic circuit for detecting the specified critical speed of an elevator with a guide as an inspecting plate set up in an elevator shaft 51 and an arm, and an emergency stop operating mechanism consisting of a connecting rod for stop of a power supply to a winder for elevating a car 1 and emergency stop of the car 1 in engagement with a guide rail 18 for the elevator with the detection of the critical speed of the speed detector and an emergency stopper are arranged on a moving side plane moving with the movement of the elevator.
