PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the inside fatigue damage resistance required for the rail of a heavy load railroad. SOLUTION: This steel rail with a pearlitic structure is of a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.70 to 0.85% C, 0.10 to 1.00% Si, 0.10 to 1.50% Mn, 0.0001 to 0.0040% B, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, in which, in the range to a depth of at least 20 mm from the head corner part and top part surface of the rail, hardness is >=370 Hv, and also, the difference in the hardness is <=30 Hv.
