A carcass storage system comprises storage containers at least partly sunk into the ground (3). A carcass storage system comprises a number of containers for temporary storage of carcasses, and refrigeration units (5) for keeping the containers cool, the containers being at least partly sunk into the ground. An Independent claim is also included for a carcass collection method, where the carcasses are temporarily stored in the above containers for subsequent collection and transport inside the containers to a work place.
