PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a working medium exhibiting excellent properties even in a small filling amount of a refrigerant by including a refrigerant comprising a lower hydrocarbon containing no halogen atom and a refrigerator oil containing an ester compound not dissolving the refrigerant with each other as main components. SOLUTION: This working medium contains a refrigerant and a refrigerator oil. The refrigerant is composed of a 2-4C hydrocarbon not containing a halogen atom and the refrigerator oil contains a linear carbonate compound, a cyclic carbonate compound or an ester compound as a cyclic ester compound not dissolving the refrigerant with each other, preferably a carbon number constituting ester bonding is >=10 atom % of a total carbon number constituting the ester bonding as main components.
