PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation device for a building which increases vertical rigidity to support the vertical load of the building and prevents the contact part of the building and the foundation from shifting. SOLUTION: A base isolation device 3 put between a sill 1 of a building and the foundation 2 thereof is constituted of a pair of upper and lower rubber plate flanges 4 and a plurality of laminate rubber members 5 put between these rubber plate flanges 4. The laminate rubber members 5 are horizontally laid at every distance and rubber sheets 9 and stainless plates 10 are vertically laminated alternately to constitute the laminate rubber member 5. The height of respective laminate rubber members 5 is made larger than the diameter thereof. In this case, since stainless steel plates 10 are interposed between the rubber sheets 9, a larger rigidity can be obtained as compared with a single body of the rubber and hence, a large load can be supported.
