PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet head, and a manufacturing method thereof, in which detective sealing of separation groove is suppressed while facilitating manufacture. SOLUTION: The ink jet head comprises a substrate 1 arranged with heaters, and a top plate 2 arranged with a plurality of recesses forming liquid chambers connected with nozzle grooves and provided, at one end thereof, with a separation groove connected with an opening 5 for injecting sealant. The substrate 1 and the top plate 2 are bonded in specified positional relationship and at least the separation groove is filled with sealing material to form nozzles and separated liquid chambers. Under a state where the substrate 1 and the top plate 2 are bonded in specified positional relationship, a step part 7 is provided contiguously to the opening 5 with at least a part thereof being located on the outside of the outline of the substrate 1. The step part 7 has outer fringe providing a level difference 11 in the bonding direction of the top plate 2 and the substrate 1 in at least two directions around the step part 7 and forming a face discontinuous to the surroundings.
