PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool locking mechanism of a machine tool main spindle which surely locks a tool to a tool holding part by enabling a drawbar to be energized toward the tool locking side with a very large energizing force, and which is advantageous in terms of manufacturing cost because of a simple structure including the main spindle. SOLUTION: An energizing mechanism 7 of a tool locking device 3 comprises a piston member 41 mounted in a cylinder hole 40 formed in the base end portion of a main spindle 1, in such a manner that the piston member 41 is movable over a predetermined stroke, the piston member 41 having a piston portion 42 fitted over a drawbar 6. The drawbar 6 is energized toward the tool locking side via a cylinder member 41 by compressed gas sealed in the gas actuation chamber 45 of the cylinder hole 40.
