PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve workability in laying roof tiles on a roof substrate material by forming the tile into a rectangular plate shape where the size of a longitudinal side of the roof tile in the direction of eaves/ridge is made twice the size of a lateral side, and connecting the tiles laterally. SOLUTION: A roof tile 1 is formed of a tile body 1a having a lengthy rectangular plate shape in the eaves/ridge direction, an upward overlapping piece 1b protruding from one side end of the body 1a, and a downward overlapped piece 1c protruding from the other side end thereof. The upward overlapping piece 1b of one roof tile 1 is overlapped on the downward overlapped piece 1c of another roof tile 1, then it is fixed thereto laterally by fixing nails, and a plurality of the eaves side roof tiles 1 are layed from one side end to another side end of a roof substrate material 2. An upper plate 3a of a water stop metal fitting 3 is made to about on an upper surface of eaves side end of the eaves side roof tile 1, then a lower surface of a lower side plate 3b is made to abut on the roof substrate material 2, and the fitting 3 is placed. Thereafter, the eaves side roof tiles 1 are mounted on the material 2. Accordingly, intrusion of rainwater to the upper part of the substrate 2 from a gap between the tiles 1 can be prevented.
