PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable tungsten oxide-tin oxide-silicon dioxide compound sol used for agents for treating fibers or paper; agents for treating the surfaces of metals, glass, plastics, etc.; coating-binding agents; flame retardant auxiliaries for fibers, plastics, etc. ; binders for ceramic fibers, glass fibers, ceramics, etc. ; antistatic agents for paper, plastics, etc.; refractive index-adjusting agents for hard coatings; hardness-improving agents; dispersing auxiliaries for inorganic fillers such as pigments; etc., and to provide a method for producing the sol. SOLUTION: This stable tungsten oxide-tin oxide-silicon dioxide compound sol comprises the compound colloid particles of tungsten trioxide (WO3), tin dioxide (SnO2), and silicon dioxide (SiO2). The method for producing the stable tungsten oxide-tin oxide-silicon dioxide compound sol comprises (a) a process for producing an aqueous solution containing a tungstate salt, a stannate salt and a silicate salt in a WO3/SnO2 weight ratio of 0.1-100 and in a SiO2/SnO2 weight ratio of 0.1-100, and (b) a process for removing cations contained in the aqueous solution obtained in the process (a).
