PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart a metallic margin for machining having high bonding strength to ceramics and easy to machine by coating at least the inside of a cylindrical hole in the ceramics with an alloy contg. a group IV a metal, e.g. and Ag-Cu-Ti alloy in a specified thickness. SOLUTION: At least the inside of a cylindrical hole in ceramics is coated with an alloy contg. a group IVa metal active to the ceramics, e.g. Ti, Zr or Hf in >=50μm, preferably about <=1 mm thickness. The alloy is preferably an Ag-Cu-Ti alloy contg. about 1-2.5 wt.% Ti in a eutectic Ag-Cu alloy having a relatively low m.p. This alloy wets the ceramics well during melting and bonds to the ceramics with high strength. When the resultant alloy coating is used as a margin for machining, a lightweight inlayed member of a ceramic substrate having dimensional precision ofμm order can easily be formed at a low cost.
