PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart the resistance against the attack of an aqueous carrier to metal particles having preferable properties for coating compositions. SOLUTION: Metal particles suitable for coating compositions, particularly aqueous coating compositions can be prepared by treating metal particles with a molybdate pigment. This molybdate pigment reacts with the surfaces of metal particles and may suitably be a salt such as a molybdate, a phosphomolybdate and a silicomolybdate. Such salts may contain a polyvalent cation of, e.g. calcium, strontium, barium, zinc aluminum or the like. These metal particles possess improved resistance to the attack of water. |
