PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston by which a bad oil raking down at the lowering time of a piston is prevented and the consumption of an oil and fuel is improved without complicating the piston structure. SOLUTION: In the piston of an internal combustion engine installed at least one piston ring 1 in a ring groove 20, a piston 2 is constituted by providing a slant surface 25 slanting toward the floor 22 side of the ring groove 20 on the ceiling 23 of the groove bottom 24 side of at least one ring groove 20. It is favorable that the slant starting point of the slant surface 25 is positioned to the more opening 27 side of the ring groove 20 than the back surface 13 of this piston ring 1 when the piston ring 1 is projected from the ring groove 20 further by a prescribed distance from the position where the piston ring 1 is contacted to a normal cylinder bore 5.
