PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion joint, in which the whole structure is simplified and which is executed easily. SOLUTION: The expansion joint has a first mounting member 1 installed to a first building frame A, a second mounting member 2 set up to a second building frame B, a coupling device 3 fitted between the mounting members, and a cover member 6 covering the building-frame opening C of the adjacent building frames. The coupling device 3 has a first coupling member 4 installed in the cross direction X of the building-frame opening and a second coupling member 5 rotatably mounted on the first coupling member by a shaft section 30 in the double-level direction Y of the building-frame opening crossed at right angles with the cross direction of the building- frame opening and the longitudinal direction Z of the building-frame opening. The first coupling member is fitted by projecting both end sections of the first coupling member from inserting sections 13, 23 formed to the first and second mounting members, the end sections of the second coupling member are mounted on the first and second mounting members respectively in a slidable manner in the longitudinal direction of the building-frame opening, and the cover member is fitted slidably at both end sections of the first coupling member in the longitudinal direction of the building-frame opening at that time.
