PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the printing to be performed by adding specific information which is appropriate to a cassette incorporating a printing medium or the printing medium itself, in the printing device which prints an image on the printing medium built in the cassette such as a tape printer. SOLUTION: Identification information complying with the kind of a tape T stored in a cassette 41 is determined by detecting an identification part 41a provided in the cassette 41 using a cassette sensor 34. Further character string information, indicating the material quality and properties of the tape T, which is previously stored in an additional data storage region corresponding to each of sets of identification information, is read. In addition, printing data is created by adding the character string information indicating the kind of the tape T to the character string information to be printed which is stored in an input buffer through a keyboard 12, and stored in a printing buffer as the print pattern data of a bit map. After that, the print pattern data is printed on the tape T stored in the cassette 41 using a printer part 25 and the tape T is cut and separated using a cutter 33 to obtain labels.
