PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying a crude spiroglycol by thermally dissolving the spiroglycol in a solvent, bringing the obtained solution into contact with activated carbon, and subsequently cooling the obtained solution to recrystallize the spiroglycol, capable of profitably purifying the spiroglycol into the highly pure spiroglycol which is useful as a polymer raw material, etc., and has a melt Hazen color number of a specific value or smaller. SOLUTION: This method for purifying a crude spiroglycol (concretelyβ,β,β',β'-tetramethyl-2,4,8,10-tetraoxaspiro[5,5]undecane-3,9-diethanol) comprises thermally dissolving (A) the crude spiroglycol in (B) a 1-10C alcohol (preferably methanol, isobutanol, 2-ethoxyethanol, ethylene glycol, etc.), bringing the obtained solution into contact with (C) activated carbon, and subsequently cooling the solution to recrystallize the spiroglycol, thus purifying the component A into the purified spiroglycol having a melt Hazen color number of <=20 after held in the atmosphere at 260 deg.C for 5 hr.
