PRODUCTION OF HIGH-PURITY BETA- HYDROXYETHYLDIMETHYLHYDRAZINIUM HYDROXIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing high-purityβ- hydroxyethyldimethylhydrazinium hydroxide. SOLUTION:β-Hydroxyethyldimethylhydrazinium compound containing an ethylene oxide addition by-product is reacted with 1,1'-bis-β-naphthol or the like to separate aβ-hydroxyethyldimethylhydrazinium inclusion complex containing no by-product. The inclusion complex is subjected to a decomposition reaction with a carbon dioxide gas to collect high-purityβ- hydroxyethyldimethylhydrazinium carbonate and/or bicarbonate. The aqueous solution of the carbonate and/or the bicarbonate is electrolyzed by using a cation exchange permeable membrane to giveβ- hydroxyethyldimethylhydrazinium hydroxide in the form of an aqueous solution without admixture of a by-product and other anions. In the case in which the aqueous solution contains the admixture of ammonia and N-methylethanolamine being the decomposition products of the objective substance, the admixture is removed by concentrating the aqueous solution under pressure.
