PRODUCTION OF DIALLYLALKANE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely obtain a diallylalkane in high yield by adding a vinylallene onto the side chain of an aromatic hydrocarbon bearing hydrogen atom(s) on theα-site of the side chain in the presence of an alkali metal-bearing catalyst. SOLUTION: This diallylalkane is obtained by adding a vinylallene (e.g. styrene, methylstyrene, vinyltoluene) onto the side chain of an aromatic hydrocarbon bearing hydrogen atom(s) on theα-site of the side chain (e.g. monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon such as an alkylbenzene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon such as a methylnaphthalene) in the presence of an alkali metal-bearing catalyst (e.g. prepared by mixing treatment under heating of an alkali metal such as sodium or potassium and an inorganic support); wherein it is preferable that the reaction is carried out in a liquid phase in the presence of an excess of the aromatic hydrocarbon over the vinylallene.
