PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing device that suppresses a rise in internal pressure between its seal members for both improved sealing performance and a prolonged device life. SOLUTION: A sealing device 1 for sealing the opposed surfaces of a housing 2 and a shaft 3 comprises a first seal member 4 for attachment to the housing 2 having a main lip 9 pressed for sliding contact against the sliding surface of the shaft 3, and a second seal member 5 for attachment to the first seal member 4 having a subsidiary lip 7 pressed for sliding contact against the sliding surface of the shaft 3, and uses the region that is enclosed by the sliding surface of the shaft 3 and the first and second seal members 4 and 5 as a sealed space 14. This sealing device 1 further has a slit 16 extending outwardly of the sealed space 14, and a seal lip 17 for venting pressure in the sealed space 14 via the slit 16. |
