PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an additive for papermaking capable of coping with the deterioration of conditions for purchasing raw materials, accelerating of a paper machine, etc., and excellent in paper-strengthening effect by preparing a polyacrylamide having specific repeating units in a polymer molecule. SOLUTION: This additive for papermaking is prepared by including a polyacrylamide-based resin obtained by reacting at least (A) acrylamides with (B) 2-acrylamidoglycolic acids or glyoxylic acids, and having both 100 repeating units of formula I (R1 is H or CH3; R2 is H, Na, K or NH2) and 0.5-30 repeating units of formula II (R3 is H or CH3) in a polymer molecule.
