PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the oxidation treatment of furnace black with good efficiency. SOLUTION: In the process for the oxidation treatment of furnace black by two steps, in the first step, a stock oil is introduced into a furnace type manufacturing oven, and the powder carbon black including the one in the stage immediately after being formed by thermal decomposition reaction to the one in the stage where the bulk density has not attained 0.15 g/cc yet is subjected to gas phase oxidation treatment by using 5-85 wt.% total oxidizing agent, and in the second step, the oxidation treated powder carbon black at 0.25 hour or more after the oxidation treatment in the first step is subjected to gas phase oxidation treatment by using the rest of the oxidizing agent.
