PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject prophylactic or progress-inhibiting medicine capable of safely and highly effectively preventing the immunodeficiency accompanied by retrovirus infection and inhibiting the progress of the syndrome after the crisis by adding conagenin (salt). SOLUTION: This prophylactic or progress-inhibiting medicine contains at least one of conagenin of the formula, namely (2S)-N-[(2R,3S,4R)2,4-dihydroxy-3- methyl-pentanoyl]-2-methylserine, and its salt as an active ingredient. The conagenin may naturally be originated or chemically synthesized. The naturally originated conagenin can be collected from the culture product of a conagenin- producing fungus belonging to the genus Streptomyces. The immunodeficiency to which the prophylactic or the progress-inhibiting medicine can be applied includes human aquired immunodeficiency syndrome(AIDS) by the infection of retrovirus and animal AIDS, such as simian AIDS and feline AIDS, by the infection of animal retrovirus.
