<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle occupant protection device capable of preventing the generation of a burden placed on the cervical vertebrae of an occupant by housing an airbag on the rear side of a cushion member in a headrest, unfolding the airbag so as to move the front of the headrest forward, and placing the cushion member of the headrest between the head of the occupant and the airbag during the unfolding. SOLUTION: A vehicle occupant protection device is provided with a rear clashing sensor for predicting or detecting rear clashing, an airbag 11 housed on the rear side of a cushion member 17 in a headrest 5 to unfold toward the head of an occupant, and a control means controlling the unfolding of the airbag when rear clashing is predicted or detected. The airbag is unfolded to move the front of the headrest 1 forward,, and the cushion member of the headrest 1 is placed between the head of the occupant and the airbag during the unfolding of the airbag.</p> |
