PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing weed growth, while causing no adverse effect on plants being cultured or on the environment. SOLUTION: This method cultures a nursery plant of given species on a planting (culturing) base 12, covered with a light-shielding sheet 10 which is water-permeable and completely shielding light, via a piece 20 provided with a combination of two or more breaks 18 to be turned up. A light-shielding patch 24, made of the same material as that for the light-shielding sheet 10 and provided with a break 26 extending from its periphery to near the center, is partly divided by the break, put around the plant stem, and fixed on the light-shielding sheet 10 in such a way that the break 26 is not aligned with the breaks 18 both in position and direction.
