PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking distance diagnostic device for a passenger conveyor capable of diagnosing a braking distance with good working efficiency and reliability. SOLUTION: A rotation detector 10 is provided for a rotating shaft, such as the input shaft 1d of a speed reducer 1b, in association with the movement of footsteps 8, wherein braking start is detected by a braking start detection part 11 from the reduction of a rotating speed obtained from the rotation detector 10, the total rotating speed of the rotation detector 10 is calculated by a calculation part 12 for a while from the detection of braking start to the stop of the footsteps 8, and then the braking distance of the footsteps 8 is computed by a computation part 13 from the total rotating speed and the thus- obtained braking distance is compared with a preset judgement value by the computation part 13 to be diagnosed by a diagnosis part 14.
