PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the quality of seams formed on worked cloth by restraining the vertical vibration of a cloth holding frame to reduce noises caused by the vertical vibration, and preventing skip stitches and thread cutting while tightening threads well. SOLUTION: A connecting member 44 is integrally connected to an X-carriage 43, and the rear end of a holder support 41 is connected to the connecting member 44 by a connecting mechanism 45 in such a way as to be rotatable about an axis parallel to Y-direction, and a cloth holding frame 14 with a worked cloth placed thereon is attached in a cantilever manner to a frame holder 15 secured to the holder support 41. During embroidery sewing, even if a base frame is vertically vibrated by the vertical drive of a needle bar and an embroidery presser foot, the vertical vibration is not transmitted to the holder support 41 by the connecting mechanism 45 but shut off and the worked cloth on the cloth holding frame 14 is not vibrated vertically, so that, during formation of seams on the worked cloth, sufficient thread tightening is effected, and so that beautiful seams are formed without skip stitches and thread cutting.
