PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thermoplastic fiber having antifungal properties for a wide range of species of fungi for a long period under conditions of contamination with organic substances and a high-humidity environment, excellent in resistances to washing and weather and safety and useful for clothes, etc., by composing the thermoplastic fiber of a thermoplastic resin containing a specific soluble glass. SOLUTION: This thermoplastic fiber comprises a thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene terephthalate containing preferably 0.5-5 wt.% of a soluble glass composed of 15-50 mol.% of ZnO, 20-45 mol.% of Na2O, 10-50 mol.% of SiO2, 10-30 mol.% of B2O3 and 0.01-1.0 wt.% of Ag2O.
