The slot is filled with adhesive having a virtually constant viscosity between -20‹ C. and + 80‹ C. and which is strongly adhesive due to its capillary force. The joint is strengthened by a mechanical anchorage between the elements e.g. pop rivets, self-threading screws, spot welds and spring catches. As shown in Fig. 6 a male element 39 and a female element (i.e. slot 31 defined by strips 26, 27) have bent over ends 36, 29 respectively which act as a spring catch. The joint is filled with the adhesive 35. In a similar joint between the slot 31 and element 30 a spot weld 32 may be additionally provided. Such a joint may be used to join planar or semicircular members to produce T-pieces, Figs. 2a, 2b (not shown), pipes Figs. 3a, 3b (not shown), pipe bends, Figs. 4a, 4b (not shown) and coupling pieces Fig. 5a-5e (not shown). In these coupling pieces two female elements are provided back-to-back by the use of two coaxial rings, the inner ring having a ridge or lumps to permit spot welding together of the rings.</p> |
