PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a masking material with superb general purpose properties which is applicable to various kinds of a part to be masked with varying shape by providing the masking material with a rigid part which conforms with a specified spot on the part to be masked and a shape variable part which covers a spot other than the specified spot. SOLUTION: The masking material 1A is used for protecting for example, the window frame 4 of an automotive door against a surface treatment such as coating. Further the masking material 1A comprises rigid parts 21A-23A which conform with the front side base end part 41, rear side base end part 42 and rear side corner part 43 of a window frame 4 respectively and shape variable parts 31A, 32A which cover an upper side window frame 44 and a rear side window frame 45 respectively among the front side base end part 41, the rear side base end part 42 and the rear side corner part 43. In addition, each of the shape variable parts 31A, 32A varies its shape properly so as to conform with the shape of the window frame 4. Consequently the masking material 1A is set on the window part 4 of varying shape for masking and also is easily positioned using each of the rigid parts 21A-23A fitted to the window frame 4.
