PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for operating coagulating sedimentation facilities by which specified treated water is discharged immediately after the raw water is introduced into the facilities. SOLUTION: The facilities are provided with the adding means 16 and 18 for adding a coagulant to the raw water and the coagulating sedimentation means having a contact material bed formed by accumulating the small-piece contact materials having a large porosity in a treating tank 20 set on the downstream side of the adding means, passing the raw water through the bed to coagulate sediment the suspended matter in the raw water and with the bed cleaned periodically or at any time by a cleaning mechanism and the raw water is clarified by the facilities. In this case, the bed is cleaned by the cleaning mechanism for a specified time after the water supply is started when the operation of the device is started or after stopping the raw water supply, and then the coagulant is added to the raw water in a larger amt. than normally for a specified time after the supply of the coagulant is resumed.
