摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guard cylinder which is light in weight and is high in safety by forming the guard cylinder to a multiple structure composed of ceramics and metal. SOLUTION: A rotating body 1 is rotated at a high speed in a drive section 3 consisting of an electric motor, etc., via a revolving shaft 2. A rotating chamber 4 which rotatably supports the rotating body 1 is constructed to maintain vacuum. The guard cylinder 10 encloses the rotating body 1, extends in a perpendicular direction and comprises a ceramic inside cylinder 11 and an outside cylinder 12 consisting of a hard metal, such as steel. When the rotating body 1 breaks, the splinters thereof collide against the inside cylinder 11 of the guard cylinder 10 at the high speed with the centrifugal force. The impact force thereof is received by the thin inside cylinder 11 of the ceramics. The inside cylinder 11 is enclosed by the outside cylinder 12 in tight contact therewith on the outer side in order to support the quasi-static stress after the impact and to prevent the brittle fracture of the ceramics 11. Since the ceramics 11 bounces back the splinters without plastic deformation, the impact by the collision of the splinters is dispersed. As a result, the safety is enhanced and the thicknesses of the ceramics 11 and the metal may be made extremely thinner than in the case of the metal alone. The reduction in the mass of the guard cylinder 10 is thus made possible.
