(POLY)GLYCERYL ETHER SULFATE SALT AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new product useful as an anionic surface-active agent by desulfating a sulfate group bound to a hydroxyl of (poly)glyceryl ether by recognizing the difference between a primary hydroxyl and secondary hydroxyl. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I (R1 is a 6-22C alkyl or alkenyl; R2 is 2-3C alkylene; (n) is an average degree of polymerization of 1 to 10; (m) is an average degree of polymerization of 0 to 20; and X is a salt-formable cationic ion), e.g. decyl glyceryl ether-2-sodium sulfate salt. A compound of formula I is obtained by reacting e.g. a silyl sulfate ester of formula II (R3 and R4 are each an aliphatic or aromatic group) with a desulfating agent (e.g. silyl amide) having a molar amount 1.0 to 40.0 times lager than the whole molar amount of sulfate groups bound to primary hydroxyl groups at 40 to 150 deg.C for 1 to 24 hrs. and by thus selectively desulfating the sulfate groups bound to the primary hydroxyl groups.
