<p>Org. cpds. are reduced by treating with a cpd. of empirical formula (I): ABnHm (I) (where A is Ca, Th Y and/or a rare earth element, B is Ni and/or Co, or a combination of these metals with Fe and/or Cu, n is 3-8.5, and m is =8). Cpds. (I) can reversibly take up and give off H2, the H2 being rapidly released when the pressure is reduced or the temp. increased. A wide range or org. cpds can be reduced, such as alkenes, alkynes, nitriles, ketones, aldehydes, aldoximes, ketoximes, acid halides, esters, amides and nitro cpds.</p> |
