PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition for providing a coating film having excellent marring resistance and impact resistance, useful for coating a plastic molding product and a woody material by including an alkali metal silicate, etc., and a resin composed of a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing resin, etc. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) an alkali metal silicate and/or a quaternary ammonium silicate and (B) a resin composed of (i) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing resin or the component Bi and (ii) an aminimide group- containing water-soluble polymer. The component A is preferably a quaternary ammonium group silicate of the formula (R)3N+CH3 (R is a 1-5C alkyl or alkanol). The component B is preferably composed of a copolymer of a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing vinyl-based monomer and another vinyl-based monomer copolymerizable with the vinyl-based monomer and the component Bii. The weight ratio of the solid content of the component A: the component B is preferably 10:90 to 90:10.
