PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to easily produce a flexible sheet having an alignment layer forming material layer used for large-area liquid crystal panels and optical compensation sheets free from alignment defects with a continuous stage by excellent heating and drying by blowing hot air to the surface of a coating liquid layer and maintaining the surface temp. at a specific range while changing the temp. from high temp. to low temp. SOLUTION: Hot air drying machines 7a, 7b capable of regulating the temp. of the hot air to be blown to the coating liquid layer are arranged above and below the long-sized flexible sheet 6 in heating and drying zones 4a, 4b. The coating liquid layer is first blown with the hot air of 50 to 120 deg.C and dries rapidly. The coating liquid layer is then blown with the hot air successively changing to the low temp. and dries slowly. The hot air of 30 to 50 deg.C is blown thereto at the end of the drying. The temp. of the hot air changes to the low temp. in compliance with the drying state of the coating liquid layer in such a manner, by which the surface temp. of the coating liquid layer is maintained within a range of 30 to 60 deg.C and the time over the entire part of the drying of the coating liquid layer may be shortened as well. |
