PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a glass for the substrate of a liquid crystal display having a coefft. of linear expansion close to that of an So film, a distortion point which makes the glass usable as the substrate of a TFT system liquid crystal display, good chemical resistance to hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid largely used in a TFT producing process, practical meltability and practical moldability and contg. no harmful substance. SOLUTION: The glass contains, by mol, 65-70% SiO2, 8 to <12% B2O3, 9-13% Al2O3, 0-5% MgO, 3-7% CaO, 1 to <3% SrO and 1-5% BaO, has >=93% total content of these components and 2-6% total content of SrO and BaO, further contains 0-2% SnO2 and 0.01-1% Sb2O3 and has <=2% total content of SnO2 and Sb2O3.
