摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the output torque of an internal combustion engine from varying so as to prevent deterioration of drivability during the type of combustion such as rich spike control is stepwise changed. SOLUTION: During rich spike control, when the type of combustion in an engine 11 is changed over from weak stratified charge combustion from a homogenous lean combustion, the openings of a throttle valve 23 and an EGR valve 43 are changed into the closed position side suitable for the homogenous lean combustion after the above-mentioned change-over. Further, in order to prevent the output torque of the engine 11 from being changed due to a change in the throttle valve opening into the closed position side, the fuel injection rate is compensated so as to be increased during the change-over of the abovementioned type of combustion. Further, when the opening of the EGR valve is changed into the closed position side, a responsive delay occurs in decrease of the EGR rate caused by the change of the opening thereof. Further, during performance of the homogenous lean combustion after the change-over, the fuel injection rate is compensated so as to be increased in order to prevent the output torque from lowering due to the responsive delay in decrease of the EGR rate.
