FIRE RETARDANT EPDM ROOFING MEMBRANE COMPOSITION FOR USE ON HIGH-SLOPED ROOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant sheet material for roofing materials which has an improved resistance to burning and is suitable for use on roofs with such a high slope as of at least 1 inch in 1 foot. SOLUTION: Based on 100 pts.wt. base polymer contg. an ethylene-propylene- diene terpolymer and having a crystallinity of at most about 2 wt.%, about 85 to about 175 pts.wt. noncombustible inorg. filler, about 30 to about 50 pts.wt. processing material, about 50 to about 80 pts.wt. flame retardant, and about 1.5 to about 10 pts.wt. sulfur curing package are contained. The sheet material has a limiting oxygen index(LOI) of at least 40% according to ASTM D2863-91. The method for covering a roof with this material comprises lapping one of the adjacent edge edges of the material on another and adhesively bonding both of the lapped edges to each other to form a continuous roofing film.
