AERIAL WORK PLATFORM EQUIPPED WITH POTHOLE AND/OR OBSTACLE DETECTING AND AVOIDING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aerial work platform equipped with a pothole and/or obstacle detecting and avoiding system which can detect the pothole and/or the obstacle and avoid them. SOLUTION: An aerial work platform including a pothole and/or an obstacle avoidance system has a noncontact distance measuring device 210 or 220 provided at one end of an under carriage 230 of the aerial work platform. The noncontact distance measuring device 210 or 220 measures a distance to a ground surface at a previously decided angle and generates the first signal on a measured distance. In response to the first signal, a motor controller 240 and/or a brake controller 270 severally control the actions of the motor 250 and/or of the brake 265, and avoid the pothole and/or the obstacle to assist the operator of the aerial work platform.
