PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cool a field circuit breaker in a more rational manner in order to improve realiability and operability of the whole of a power generating plant. SOLUTION: A physical quantity relating to the temperature of a field circuit breaker 6, for example, a field current flowing through the field circuit breaker 6, is monitored. When the physical quantity is equated with, or higher than, a self-cooling rated current of the field circuit breaker 6, a cooling fan 8 is started to cool the field circuit breaker 6 by forced air, and when it is below the self-cooling rated current value, the cooling fan 8 is stopped to leave self cooling only.
