PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain image data that is equal to what was read of a read object image with high accuracy, without causing increase in the number of read times of the read object image. SOLUTION: This reader controls in such a manner that the reading of a film image is performed in charge storage times, which are mutually different among a read cell group A, consisting of each read cell from one edge part of each sensing part 117 of a line CCD 116 to the (3n-2)-th cel (n=1, 2, 3, etc.), a read cell group B consisting of each of the (3n-1)-th read cells and a read cell group C consisting of each of the 3n-th read cells. Thus, three of image data which are equal to what was read of the film image on different read conditions from one another are obtained. Any of the three kinds of image data or image data that composited the two kinds of image data are outputted as the image data of the film image, based on minimum density.
