PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing a microporous or ultrafilter membrane formed from a hydrophobic support having a hydrophilic surface containing a membrane porous surface. SOLUTION: There is provided a process for producing a composite porous membrane formed from a porous membrane support formed from a first polymer, having an average pore size of 0.001-10μm, and directly coated with a crosslinked second polymer over its entire surface and having a porous shape substantially same to that of the porous membrane support, which process comprises: (a) washing the porous membrane support to wet the surfaces of the pores of the porous membrane; (b) bringing the porous membrane from step (a) into contact with a solution containing the second monomer and a crosslinking solution; and exposing the monomer to energy from an electron beam at least 0.1 Mrad to crosslink the second polymer over the entire surface of the first polymer under conditions in which the in-situ stoppage of the pores can be avoided. |
