PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a sudden down-shift unexpected by a driver occurring in switching a shift mode into an automatic shifting mode, for deciding a shift stage in accordance with a travel condition by manual operation, from a multi- application shift mode for deciding the shift stage in accordance with various applications. SOLUTION: When switching, from a manual shift mode M to an automatic shift mode D, is judged by a switch signal Msw and MFLG in S41-S43, and a down-shift region is judged in switching from the mode M to the mode D in S44; an idle condition in a D range is detected in S45 and S46, and when an actual vehicle speed is a vehicle speed lower limit value or more for maintaining a shift stage selected in the mode M in an S47, the continuation of the mode M is commanded in an S48 to set the MFLG to '1', and also indicate 'AUTO' on an indicator. |
