PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable liquid crystal display device permitting to confirm display contents irrespective of the direction of a display main body. SOLUTION: This portable liquid crystal display device is arranged in a main display body 1, and is provided with a switching means for changing over ON to/from OFF according to a tilt of the display main body 1 in approximately vertical plane, an arithmetic calculation part 3 for calculating coordinates of picture elements to be brought into conduction at the time of detecting a tilt attitude of the display main body 1 by a signal from the switching means and converting the display contents of a liquid crystal display part 4 according to the tilt attitude, and a control circuit 5 for displaying the display contents on the liquid crystal display part 4 after the conversion based on the calculation result of the arithmetic calculation circuit 3.
