PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size and cost of the gradation drive circuit of a liquid crystal display which executes multi-valued gradation. SOLUTION: Gradation voltage setting sections 53, 54 form 512 pieces of positive and negative gradation potentials +V1 to +V256, -V1 to -V256 indicating the gradation data of, for example, 8 bits. The respective gradation potentials +V1 to +V256, -V1 to -V256 are divided in blocks by gradation potential block selection sections 55, 56 and are sequentially applied in time division to bus lines L1 to L32. As a result, the number of the bus lines L1 to L32 for supplying the gradation potentials to the gradation drive circuit per dot of the liquid crystal display are drastically decreased. The bus lines L1 to L32 for supplying the gradation potentials based on the gradation data are selected by a gradation voltage selection section 57 and the gradation potentials are applied to liquid crystal display elements via a sample-hold circuit 60 and an output circuit 70.
