PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire image data that accurately represents a subject image at the time of photographing from a read image data obtained by reading an image, which is exposed and recorded on photosensitive material and is visualized through development processing. SOLUTION: Characteristics data FilmDataj (d) which has conversion characteristics, that converts image data of a film image recorded on a photographic film into image data almost equal to image data of a virtual film image recorded on a virtual photographic film, having an exposure quantity-coloring density characteristics equal to characteristics obtd. by extending respectively linear parts of the exposure quantity-coloring density characteristics of the photographic film to an exposure quantity area where the characteristics become nonlinear is precalculated and nonlinear corrections that convert the image data by using the characteristics data are performed after performing the correction that corresponds to the bias of film base density to reference value. Furthermore, image data standardization, which corrects color balance of the image data in accordance with color balance of a gray candidate point in the image data, is performed.
