PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a photographic film from being degenerated and to prolong the service life of a cooling means. SOLUTION: When a scanning action is finished (114; Y), a diaphragm plate 39 is moved to a standby position (116). When the scanning action of the film is not instructed again till prescribed time elapses after the scanning action is finished (1 minute, for example) (118; N), the plate 39 is moved to an original position (120) and a compressor 94 is stopped (122). Since the compressor is stopped when the diaphragm plate is moved to the original position, the photographic film is prevented from being degenerated and the service life of the compressor is prolonged.
