PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focal plane shutter by which at least flap phenomenon of a slit forming blade can be restrained in all points of time of exposure operation in the vicinity of the pivotally supporting position of an arm and the slit forming blade. SOLUTION: A front blade group is constituted of the two arms 3 and 4 pivotally attached to shafts 1d and 1e erectly set on a shutter base plate 1, and five blades 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 pivotally supported by the arms 3 and 4 in order. A pressing part 4a extending from the pivotally supporting part of the blade 9 is formed on the arm 4 by which the blade 9 is pivotally supported on a slit forming edge side. Consequently, the part 4a is always superposed on the blade 9, so that at least the flap phenomenon of the slit forming blade can be restrained in all points of time of exposure operation.
