PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a wireless printer head by providing an infrared receiver in the printer head, a unit for storing the data of a received infrared signal, and a controller for controlling the recording operation based on a stored data. SOLUTION: An ink jet cartridge 40 comprises an infrared receiver 42 having means for receiving an infrared signal from a body side unit, a memory 44 having means for storing a data to be recorded, and a data control means 46. The body side unit comprises a controller 48 on the body side, and infrared ray emitter 50 having means for emitting an infrared signal. Since a control signal from the body side controller 48 is converted into infrared ray before being transferred to an ink jet cartridge 40, a wireless printer head can be realized. Since the printer head is insusceptible to signal quantity, a high speed printer head can be attained.
