PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying vitamin B12 and/or its derivative at high recovery rate by using only water as a solvent without using an organic solvent at all. SOLUTION: This method for purifying vitamin B12 and/or its derivative comprises adding a water-soluble ionic compound to an aqueous solution containing vitamin B12 and/or vitamin B12 derivative and crystallizing vitamin B12 and/or its derivative. The water-soluble ionic compound includes an ionic organic compound and/or ionic inorganic compound. A water-soluble ionic compound having higher solubility to water or dispersibility to water than the vitamin B12 to be recovered by crystallization and/or its derivative, not causing decomposition, polymerization, etc., by itself, normally at <=100 deg.C and having no reactivity with vitamin B12 or its derivative is preferable as the water soluble ionic compound.
