The invention relates to a method for making an aluminium alloy melt containing at least 2.5 wt. % magnesium less susceptible to scratching. According to said method, 0.02 to 0.15 wt. % vanadium and less than 60 ppm beryllium is added to the melt. By adding vanadium, it is possible to add le ss beryllium and as a result, the melt is more scratch-resistant.
